The Reds acquire 3b Ke’bryan Hayes in trade with pirates

The Reds of Cincinnati acquired the third basic player Ke’Bryan Hayes of Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for the Gaucher Taylor Rogers and the Prospect of Sammy Staffura, he was announced on Wednesday.

Hayes, 28, who is signed until 2029, strikes 0.236 with two circuits and 36 points produced in 369 bats this season for Pittsburgh, where he spent the entire six -year career.

Cincinnati, chasing its second place in the playoffs since 2013, has been three games back in the race for the end of the National League in Wednesday’s matches. The pirates are the last in the central NL and rank near the bottom or below in the majors in the most important offensive statistical categories.

“If you sell, it means you lose,” said the president of the baseball operations Reds Nick Krall. “So, if you are a buyer, you are able to potentially reach the playoffs and see what is going on. So you always want to be a buyer. This is the most important thing. These guys are playing very hard at the moment. You want it to continue and give them support as best we can.”

The Reds rank 28th in OP of their third basic players this season, compiling a brand of 0.620. Hayes has a career .676 OPS while playing a stellar defense, winning the Golden Glove in 2023. Its 16 defensive points saved this season are eight more than any other MLB basic player, according to Sports Info Solutions.

“He could be the best defender in baseball. Otherwise, he is there,” said the manager of Cincinnati, Terry Francona, shortly after the finalization of the agreement. “We are trying to find ways to improve. We are so much care to play clean baseball, and it will be a huge step in this direction.”

The Reds used six different players in third row this season. Noelvi Marte, who was the main third goal player in the first goal, will move in the outside field.

Hayes has not progressed offensively in the same way, with its operations lowered during each of the last three seasons. He is currently at a career level. 569 this season.

“We know where the strike was and sometimes a change of landscape can help,” said Francona. “It seems excited and we are delighted to have it and see where it’s okay.”

Son of former Major League Charlie Hayes, he will earn $ 7 million in 2026 and 2027 and $ 8 million in 2028 and 2029. The Reds will also hold an option of $ 12 million in 2030.

The pirates have several internal options to replace Hayes in the short term, notably Jared Triolo, who won a gold glove as a league player in 2024. Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the daily stop of Pittsburgh this season, went to the third for Wednesday’s match against the Giants.

Rogers, 34, appeared in 40 games for the Reds this year, compiling a 2.45 MPM while only abandoning three 33 -round circuits. The 10 -year -old veteran, who was a selection of stars with the twins in 2021, will be a free agent after this season.

Tyler Rogers, his identical twin brother, was exchanged a few hours later from the Giants of San Francisco to the New York dishes. According to ESPN Research, this is the third time in the history of the MLB that the brothers were negotiated in mid-season the same day.

Stafura, 20, was with class A Daytona, reaching. 262 with four circuits and 48 points produced in 88 games. It was a second round choice in 2023 by Cincinnati and was just outside their 10 best hopes, according to Kiley McDaniel d’Espn.
