Hong Kong announces the team for the 2025 Asian Cup, Yasim Murtaza to direct

Hong Kong Cricket announced his team of 20 members for the Asia Cup 2025versatile Yasim Murtaza appointed captain. The tournament will be played in the United Arab Emirates, where Hong Kong finds itself in a difficult group B alongside Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the title champions Sri Lanka. The team will open its campaign against Afghanistan on September 9 in Abu Dhabi, followed by matches against Bangladesh (September 11, Dubai) and Sri Lanka (September 15, Abu Dhabi).

Fifth appearance of the Hong Kong Asian Cup

This year’s participation marks the fifth appearance of Hong Kong in the Asian Cup, after having presented in 2004, 2008, 2018 and 2022. The team reflects a calculated mixture of experienced artists and new exciting perspectives, highlighting the team’s ambition to go beyond participation and push for qualification in the Super Oven scene.

Yasim Murtaza is ready to fulfill leadership tasks

The leadership group was entrusted to experienced activists. The appointment of Murtaza as a captain comes to the back of his coherent performance and his ability to anchor the side. Supporting him is vice-captain Babar HayatA proven match winner. Hayat is one of the only two drummers to have marked a century in the history of the Asian Cup T20 – the other being India Virat Kohli. His striker and his richness of experience should play a central role in the Hong Kong campaign.

The combination of the constant leadership of Murtaza and the Hayat Flair attacker is considered the key to the chances of Hong Kong to cause upheavals in the group phase.

The team offers familiar names such as Anshuman Rath, Nizakat Khan, Ehsan Khan, Aizaz Khan, Kinchit Shah, Ayush Shukla and Haroon Arshad – players with proven references in previous international competitions. Their experience, associated with the inclusion of young talents like Kalhan Challu, Adil Mehmood and Ali Hassan, offers depth and flexibility between the departments.

The selectors underlined the need for a versatile and balanced unit capable of adapting to the requirements of high pressure matches with stronger opponents.
