Historian & A Movie: Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Celebrate the frightening season in Westchester County! Join us in person in the Gothic room while we are looking at “Sleepy Hollow” by Tim Burton (1999, R). Based on Washington Irving’s tale of the same name, “Sleepy Hollow” takes place in 1799 New York where the young police officer Ichabod Crane investigates a series of murders in the rural city of Sleepy Hollow. We will hear Michael Lord, historic director of the historic site of Philipse Manor Hall, with comments on what is and is not correct for the story of Irving, the Dutch heritage of the Hudson valley and the history of the end of the 18th century in New York. “Sleepy Hollow” is classified R and is not recommended for young audiences.
