A military vehicle of the National Guard crashed in a car in Washington, DC on Wednesday morning, injuring the driver. The incident comes after President Trump ordered hundreds of guard troops in the district as part of his DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force.
The mine -resistant ambush protected the all -terrain vehicle (MATV) – a military vehicle that weighs up to 16 tonnes and is supposed to resist explosive attacks – collided with a “civil vehicle” just after 6 am on Wednesday in the Capitol Hill district of Washington, DC, according to the SGT Master. Erich B. Smith from the Office of the National Guard. MATV was one of the five DC National Guard vehicles.
“The convoy of five vehicles and a DC metropolitan police cruiser arrested and made aid to the civilian, which was transported via EMS,” Smith said in a statement.
The person was saved from his vehicle, underwent minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, according to the DC fire service.
A video circulating on social networks shows a MATV Feet far from a SUV on the scene of the accident – the intersection of the 8th Street SE and the avenue de Caroline du Nord.
Samuel Pastore, who is a district commissioner, lives nearby. He criticized what he called the “oversized militarized police forces”.
“Our children go back to school,” said Pastore. “Take these tank out of our streets!”
The deployment of the DC National Guard comes after Trump’s “criminal emergency” declaration in the national capital. The troops of the National Guard of Tennessee, Virginia-Western, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana and Ohio were also ordered in the district by their respective governors.
Earlier this month, Trump deployed the district troops, took federal control from the Metropolitan Police Department and posted hundreds of federal laws on the application of laws through DC
The federal authorities have carried out 550 arrests in Washington since August 7, including 3 known gang members, according to an unauthorized White House official to publicly share specific data. Some 76 firearms have also been seized, they added.
The Metropolitan Police Department did not publish a report on the accident because there was no criminal offense, according to MPD spokesperson Michael Russo.
The mayor of DC, Muriel Bowser, was not immediately available to comment on the accident.
