Here is a summary of the character “Downton Abbey” before “the grand finale”

After 52 episodes and three films, the world of “Downton Abbey” arrives at a comforting conclusion – for the moment, at least. The series and the two previous films, “Downton Abbey” of 2019 and “Downton Abbey: A New Era” of 2022 followed several characters over a period of 18 years, both upstairs and at the bottom of the big house. While the viewers have already said goodbye to the Imperious Violet Crawley, the dowager countess of Grantham (Maggie Smith), in the last film when she died tragically on the screen surrounded by her family, there are still much more farewell to come. Here is where we left some of the key characters as “Downton Abbey: The Grand Final” arrives in theaters on September 12.

Lady Mary was not always online to take control of Downton Abbey, but her unhappy marriage with Matthew Crawley and the birth of their son George assured that she could be at the head of the estate, at least until George becomes the majority. Mary finally remarked towards the end of the series, to run the car pilot Henry Talbot, but “The Grand Final” sees the divorced couple and Mary on the outings of the company. However, she has intelligent ideas about how to keep Downton Abbey afloat and push him to the modern era because she finally takes the reins of her father. “From the start, she has always had a strong personality,” the creator Julian Fellowes said in Times in 2022. “And I think what we looked at over the years is how she came to exploit her strength, master it and use it to achieve what she wants.”
