A Flatilla activist carrying Greta Thunberg and others left for Barcelona for the Gaza Strip on Sunday with humanitarian aid on board.

Food experts warned earlier this month that Gaza City was in famine and that half a million people across the strip faced catastrophic hunger levels. The war of almost 23 months killed more than 63,000 people, with at least 332 Palestinians who died of malnutrition, including 124 children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health managed by Hamas.

The maritime convoy, comprising about 20 boats and delegations from 44 countries, will be joined by additional port ships in Italy, Greece and Tunisia in the coming days while sailing on its road from the Western Mediterranean to the Gaza Strip, the organizers said.
Thunberg and the actor of “Game of Thrones” Liam Cunningham are some of the most recognizable personalities of the expedition, as well as activists, politicians like the former mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau and journalists.
“It was very clear that Israel continuously raped international law by attacking, illegally intercepting boats in international waters and continuously preventing humanitarian aid from coming,” Thunberg said in an interview with the Associated Press on Saturday.
