The showrunner of season 3 of the Foundation explains what happened with Gaal’s vision [Exclusive]

This article contains major spoilers For the final of season 3 of “Foundation”.

Is the future settled in stone, or our actions in the present can they help to alleviate a disaster in terms of extinction? This question has remained at the forefront of “Foundation” since his very first episode, when the brilliant mathematician Hari Seldon (Jared Harris) was tried for the first time for his predictions on the fall of the Empire. Once our main protagonist Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) began to experience disturbing premonitions of the Sinister Mule at the start of season 2, this thematic concern has only increased. It appeared that we are heading towards a violent confrontation which would decide on the fate of the whole human race, which many of us supposed to arrive at the end of the third season.

Things have gone quite differently in the final of season 3 with a pair of bad guys reveal, however. Not only brother Dusk (Terrence Mann) upset the whole balance of power at the heart of the Empire, but the mule was not what we thought it was. After spending so much time to like to hate the Roguish warlord (and in particular the performance of the actor Pilou Asbæk), the torsion involving Bayta (Synnøve Karlsen) completely rewritten our preconceived ideas on the greatest threat of the series. The season ended with very little resolution, throwing all our characters in disarray just as the galaxy vacillates on a precipitated advantage.

So, about Gaal’s vision? The very different circumstances surrounding their meeting in the final mean the future can be changed … right? Fortunately, the co-creator and co-showrunner David S. Goyer helped to clarify things while speaking exclusively to / Rafael Motamayor of the film. He explained how it is linked to the death of Gaal’s daughter, Salvor Hardin (Leah Harvey), last season and what it suggests going ahead:

“Well, one thing we learned from the end of season 2, Gaal saw a vision of this confrontation, and she saw Salvor dead in this confrontation, then Salvor died by a different means at the end of season 2. So what it meant, and it is important for a program that predicts the forecasting then Gaal’s dreams will happen?”

Season 4 of the Foundation will play quickly and loose with the visions of Gaal’s future

Those who do not learn from their psychohistory are condemned to die of horrible and painful deaths with the rest of the human race. Okay, so things are not quite that Located again in “Foundation”, but it certainly seems to lead this way – especially now that Apple has officially renewed the series for a fourth season. But there may be reasons to hope. A certain feeling of imminent unhappiness was great about the events of season 2, largely due to the feeling of Gal Dornick that his adult daughter and moved Salvor Hardin (it is a long story) would die in the distant future while Gaal fought the mule. The final of this season has proven that the future could be changed … but only in the most tragic imaginable way. Instead of becoming a victim of the mule on this distant battlefield, Salvor sacrificed himself to save Gaal in the present. This event seems to prove that the future remains mutable, which is a key scenario that takes place in season 4.

In his interview with / film, Goyer continued by describing how it will continue to influence our protagonists and antagonists:

“What we landed at the end of season 2 is that Salvor dies in the present as opposed to the future. What we say definitively is that the future is not on rails. It is a possible future. It is potentially the most likely future, but it is not the only future. What it means is is [Gaal’s] I will certainly not fight this pirate in the ruins of the library, but she could still fight someone. “”

For all those who anticipate Gaal and the great fight of the mule in this library on Trantor, Goyer seems to strongly imply that this will always happen on the line – only with the fame formerly known as Bayta. A narration approach that maintains the large lines in place while remaining flexible with precise details could very well be the best way to keep viewers on their guard. While we are waiting for season 4, the 1-3 seasons of “foundation” now broadcast on Apple TV +.
