HAWKEYE Star Jeremy Renner Talks Marvel’s ‘Big Plans’ for Jonathan Majors’ Kang and Online Cancel Culture

When Marvel Studios introduced Kang (aka The One Who Remains) in Lokithe stage was set for the MCU to get a big bad more formidable than even Thanos.
However, the studio made a major misstep by adding its most well-known variant, Kang the Conqueror, to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In the film, the Kang we expected to be the end of the Multiverse saga was soundly defeated by the heroes of the title. Then, to make matters worse, rising star Jonathan Majors was removed from office after a high-profile domestic violence trial.
Marvel Studios has since decided to move on from Kang and will instead focus on Doctor Doom in the upcoming film. Avengers movies. The Kang Dynasty was renamed doomsdayand the time traveler’s story will probably end with a few throwaway lines of dialogue next December.
Hawk Eye Star Jeremy Renner was asked about media coverage in 2019 of abuse, threats and dangerous drug use in his marriage to ex-wife Sonni Pacheco, and how that differs from the Majors’ situation.
“I don’t know. I don’t know what the difference is between gossip and anything else.” » replied the actor. “I don’t know enough about Jonathan and his situation to know. I know they had big plans for this character, that’s for sure. Either way… it sucks, I think. You really have to do your due diligence.”
Pushed to elaborate, Renner spoke in general terms about how online coverage of a situation like this can factor into how a company like Disney handles the fallout.
“There’s a broader scope to this. The idea of public opinion becoming part of the judicial process…since when did public opinion become more valuable than the actual truth in any situation?” he thought. “We’ve had this for a while with social media and all that. I think it’s pretty dangerous. The whole cancel culture and all that. It makes me want to run and hide.”
We don’t know when Renner will return to the MCU, but he recently revealed if he would return For Avengers: Apocalypse And Avengers: Secret Wars. Hawkeye season 2 could also be somewhere on the horizon, and he looks back fondly on his time in this world.
“No one expected it. Even the people at Marvel were surprised by the whole thing. It happened pretty quickly from Iron Man to The Avengers. What a great…what are we, 13, 14 years later, and he’s still in the ring, still fighting and taking punches and throwing punches. It’s a fun, fun, fun world. The friendships that came out of it. It started out so weird.”
“Some of us knew each other before we started filming Avengers, but Hemsworth and a few other people we didn’t know. It’s weird. It’s like a Halloween costume. We’re all wearing these weird outfits and props. We’re like, ‘What are we doing? I don’t know, but at least we’re doing it together.’ Through that deal, I’ve made some really good friendships.”
