Harley Quinn of Margot Robbie almost had a film with the most controversial character of DC

This summer, the reputation of the brand of DC Comics on the big screen will be hopeful, rehabilitated with the release of “Superman” by James Gunn. The film is the first entry on the big screen into the new DCU, and will define the basics of what will happen, after a decade of successful constant projects in the now disappeared DC universe (DCEU). The DCEU began in 2013 with “Man of Steel” by Zack Snyder, and in the years following the release of this film, this shared universe has experienced significantly because of the inconsistent quality among its versions. Perhaps DCEU’s worst film is in the form of “Suicide Squad”, which made theaters in 2016, only a few months after “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” was published at the negative critical reception and the polarized responses of the public.
Directed by David Ayer (although he has since denied the film), “Suicide Squad” sought to be an original and exciting new cinematographic entrance in the canon of comic strip cinema, in particular for DC. Two years earlier, Marvel Studios published “Guardians of the Galaxy” by James Gunn, which has become a successful success, transforming the characters unknown before. While Warner Bros. Intended for “Suicide Squad” to leave a similar impact on the public, the film turned out to be a hot waste of epic proportions. However, one of the rare brilliant places in the film came in the form of a Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), which was largely considered among critics and the public as a brilliant choice of casting. The popularity of Harley Quinn has led to many projects that were in development for the DCEU, and although it appears in at least two other films, there was a particular project which, in certain respects, we should be grateful which have never exceeded the written page.
Margot Robbie was supposed to play in a DCEU romance with Jared Leto
Despite the critical rubing that “Suicide Squad” received, the Warner Bros. films. And DC have seen the potential in more films featuring the Joker by Margot Robbie and Jared Leto. The DCEU had ambitions to extend its universe, and the popularity of Batman as a property, more in the world of Gotham City was a fact. Harley Quinn’s film which was to be written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (“Crazy Stupid Love”).
However, this project has never exceeded the development stage. In the end, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto never appeared on the screen as Harley Quinn and the Joker, respectively. Robbie would return as a character in two other films: “Birds of Prey by Cathy Yan (and the fantastic emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” and “The Suicide Squad” by James Gunn. “Birds of prey” in particular would make a final statement on Leto’s joker, in particular that Harley broke with him, establishing himself more as an independent agent of chaos.
While Harley Quinn of Margot Robbie is one of the rare remains of the DCEU which is looked at with emotion, Jared Leto perhaps stands out the most controversial and most inscribed character of the franchise. Although fans have been intrigued by its initial cast, its representation in “Suicide Squad” is distinguished as Joker’s worst performance. Leto would resume his role as joker once again in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, and would only be referred to only in “The Suicide Squad” by James Gunn in a dark and powerful powerful monologue powerfully by Harley Quinn.
We ended up getting a Joker / Harley Quinn film, but at what price?
Although Margot Robbie and Jared Leto have never played together in a romantic film like Harley Quinn and Joker, respectively, a film centered on the two characters was finally produced. Last fall, Warner Bros. Pictures released “Joker: Folie A Deud” by Todd Phillips, which was the continuation of the film Blockbuster 2019 “Joker”, with Joaquin Phoenix in an award -winning performance of the Oscars. The continuation saw Arthur Fleck / Joker from Phoenix to associate himself with Harley “Lee” Quinzel (Lady Gaga), and was a musical drama exploring their relationship.
Although Warner Bros. A dodged the ball which was the film Romance Dceu proposed with Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, they ended up taking one with “Joker: Folie has two”, which was, by all accounts, a cinematographic failure. The criticisms were not nice (although the criticism of the film gives a convincing argument for the merits of the film), and fans of the 2019 film were particularly rabid, which led to become a major flop at the box office.
The new DCU of James Gunn has the Slate (mainly) clean, with a few tiles from the previous DCEU, such as the peacemaker of John Cena. Given the peaceful links with “The Suicide Squad” by Gunn, some fans still maintain the hope of the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, although Robbie seems ready to pass the torch. That being said, we will certainly not see Jared Leto resume his role as Joker, in particular given recent allegations that have been made public against the actor.
