This was the first time that CSK finished at the bottom of the points table in history, and also the first time that the franchise missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.

Additionally, CSK lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home for the first time in 17 years and to Delhi Capitals after 15 years. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Chennai Super Kings in their own backyard for the first time in history.

And all these things are happening under the watchful eye of the legendary MS Dhoni. Original skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad could only feature in five matches in which he scored 122 runs at an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 150.61 before being ruled out of the competition. MS Dhoni took charge midway through the season but was unable to help his team turn things around.

CSK breaks silence on Sam Curran and others release rumors

Recently, Cricbuzz released a report in which they provided updates on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, which is expected to take place in December.

In the same report, it was mentioned that CSK was looking to release some big names from the team to clear the purse and enter the auction with a big sum in the bag.

It was reported that the five-time champions were looking to release Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran and Devon Conway. Besides, Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement added INR 9.75 crores to their purse.

After the report went viral, CSK appealed to X to put an end to the growing discussions. They shared a post that said, “Don’t worry, we’ve updated the bio,” and their new bio says, “Nothing’s official until you see it here.” ยป
