Hamas hands over another body to the Gaza Strip

The Palestinian militant organization Hamas handed over another body to staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Gaza Strip.

The remains are believed to be those of a hostage kidnapped in Israel, Hamas said Thursday.

A Tel Aviv forensic institute later confirmed that the body belonged to Meny Godard, a resident of Kibbutz Be’eri, according to statements from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

According to the Israeli military, Godard was killed at the age of 73 during the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023, and his body was reportedly transported to the Gaza Strip.

After the handover, three dead hostages remain in the cordoned off coastal area, including a foreigner kidnapped in Israel.

Hamas announced Thursday that it had found the body the same day in Khan Yunis, in the south of the Gaza Strip.

Under the ceasefire agreement concluded between Israel and Hamas in October, the Islamist group had to hand over to Israel all the remains of 28 murdered hostages. For each body returned, Israel has in turn committed to transferring the remains of 15 people killed in the Gaza Strip to local authorities.
