On Wednesday, the representative Jamaal Bowman (DN.Y.) participated in a stormy dispute with the representative Thomas Massie (R-KY.) Regarding the opposition of the GOP in firearms, after having implored the journalists of Capitol Hill to ask the Republicans what is their plan to fight against the epidemic of armed violence. Massie, which presides over the caucus of the second amendment which loves firearms, intervened to propose that teachers are armed in schools.
“Wearing weapons? No more firearms lead to more death,” Bowman shouted several times before Massie tells her to calm down.
“Do you calm? Children die, “said the Democratic legislator, who has spent decades as a teacher. “The solution is not to arm the teachers.”
Jeffries said on Thursday that he had not yet spoken to Bowman of the argument, but understands that “the passions are high on the issue”.
“Our children are slaughtered in the streets of America,” said the Democrat chief of the Chamber. “No other country has this problem.”
The House was prohibited from assault weapons in July, when it was led by the Democrats, but the bill was never presented on the Senate soil. With the Republicans who now control the room, it is unlikely that such a ban will reach the office of President Joe Biden.
