Guessand opens an account to give Emery’s men the advantage

Evann Guessand scored his first goal for Aston Villa to give them the lead in their Europa League clash with the Go Ahead Eagles inside four minutes.

Unai Emery made seven changes from the Villa side that beat Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday, with his team selection made with one eye on this Sunday’s clash with Manchester City in the Premier League.

Guessand, however, retained his place and was on hand to give Villa the lead after Gerrit Nauber fired in from close range at the other end.

Summer signing from Nice, Guessand headed home after a miscommunication between goalkeeper Jari De Busser and a defender diverted Jadon Sancho’s cross his way.

De Busser then denied Ollie Watkins and Emi Buendia from close range as Villa looked to take full control, having already put themselves in an excellent position to make it three wins from three in the league stage.
