Graduate of Westchester High School owned by ice after routine visa hearing, says the family

Lower Manhattan (WABC) – Another person was owned by ice just a few minutes after a routine visa hearing. On Saturday, detention sparked more demonstrations.
The flowers adorned the fence outside the Federal Plaza immigration court while religious and municipal leaders came to support relatives and supporters of those held by ice agents.
One of the last detainees – Yeonoo Go, 20, the daughter of the beloved episcopal priest Kyrie Kim and a graduate of High School scarsdal in Westchester County. The South Korean native moved to New York in 2021 with her mother.
A lawyer close to the case indicates that GO had a request for an extension of his current visa, which was to expire in December.
Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the Department of Internal Security, said rather that “exceeded his visa which expired more than two years ago” and said that “Ice arrested it on July 31 and placed it in an accelerated procedure”.
Go lawyer said GO had been sentenced to justice on Thursday for a procedural hearing on his request for a visa renewal. The judge gave a date to return to court in October, but when she left the building, the ice agents were waiting to arrest him.
“She was with her mother. She had a broken heart. And when she called me at night, later in the day, she was decomposed,” said Go’s boyfriend Leo Chu.
Got spoke to his boyfriend and friends before the audience.
“She was a little nervous … Given the climate … Now her fears have come true,” added her friend, Gabriella Lopez.
“Her mother receives regular calls from Yeonoo and she stays at 26 Federal Plaza, who, as we know, is not really an installation that has showers or hot beds or foods. And therefore the detentions here are not only illegal, but they are immoral,” said Reverend Matthew Heyd of the New York Episcopal Diocese.
Immigration Coalition says that these incidents occur more and more and give advice to people with future hearings.
“I think it is extremely important that whoever needs to go to an audience of the immigration court calls the New York office, the New York office and their hotline,” said Murad Awawdeh, president and chief executive officer of the New York immigration coalition.
It is also important to make sure you create a family preparation plan and, if possible, work with a lawyer to create a virtual audience.
In the meantime, the members of the community hope that their requests for Liberation of Go will be heard.
