GOP state governor abandons race-based contracts – RedState

Have you ever noticed that most, if not all, of the horrible things Democrats accuse Republicans of doing are blatant projections, as if they are looking in the mirror while engaging in hypocritical put-downs? Of course you did.
This article is a perfect example of one of those ironic examples.
South Carolina Republican Gov. Henry McMaster moved Wednesday to eliminate race-based government contracts in the Palmetto State, pushing state lawmakers to codify his executive action into law. McMaster signed a decree order state agencies to stop awarding contracts based on race.
McMaster wrote on X:
Today, I directed state agencies to end all future spending, purchasing, or contracting decisions based on race. State laws requiring these racial quotas and reservations are unconstitutional and discriminatory. Contracts with state government must be awarded based on merit and value to the taxpayer. Senate President Alexander and House Speaker Smith have agreed to lead efforts to repeal these laws when the General Assembly returns next month.
Current South Carolina law requires all state agencies to allocate a minimum of 10 percent of their spending to minority-owned businesses. Additionally, the South Carolina Department of Transportation is also required to incur at least five percent of its expenses for certain contracts from minority-owned businesses.
This, my Democratic friends, is direct racism.
Slice and dice it any way you want, Democrats, but this is yet another example of the left’s false utopianism dreaming of placing so-called “shares” before deserved.
Before we continue with the story, let’s be clear:
Everything – and I mean All — the Democratic party supporting or opposing can be logged at the polls (in their minds, of course) with no more than two points. And I would go so far as to suggest without exception.
Here’s more:
In his executive order, McMaster said state laws mandating race-based contracts “call for unlawful racial discrimination” and are policies that “rest on the false assumption that the solution to perceived historical wrongs is racial discrimination against individuals in the present.”

South Carolina Senate President Thomas Alexander and House Speaker Murrell Smith, both Republicans, said they would act in January to support McMaster’s decision and make permanent his ban on race-based contracts in state law. Here is Alexander:
We are a nation and state dedicated to the principle that “all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator,” as reflected in the Constitution’s requirement for equal protection of the laws. When existing laws no longer conform to this constitutional command, it is our duty to correct them. I am confident that my colleagues in the Senate share my belief that state government must reflect equality under the law in all its endeavors and ensure that our laws are fully consistent with the Constitution.
Boom.
I remember the famous scenario from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where the pigs painted “All animals are equal” on the front of the barn, only to ominously add: “but some animals are more equal than others.”
It didn’t work in Animal Farm, nor in America. Where merit does not trump (no pun intended) “fairness,” failure, even disaster, ultimately follows.
