A critical defect in the V8 engine of Chrome
The newly corrected vulnerability, followed in the form of CVE-2025-10585, stems from a weakness of type confusion in the JavaScript V8 engine of Chrome. Google’s threat analysis group (TAG) discovered and reported the bug on Tuesday, and the company has sent a fix the next day, Bleeping Computer.
Google confirmed that the fault was exploited in the wild, although it does not share the technical details or the groups behind the attacks. Tag has a history of discovery of zero days linked to Spyware campaigns sponsored by the government targeting high -risk individuals such as opposition leaders, journalists and dissidents.
The corrective was delivered via Chrome version 140.0.7339.185/.186 for Windows and MacOS, and version 140.0.7339.185 for Linux. These updates will gradually reach all users of the stable office channel in the coming weeks.
Although Chrome usually updates automatically, you can apply the fix immediately by navigating to the “Google Chrome” section. Google said it retains complete technical details until most users have set up the update, a precaution intended to prevent attackers from exploiting delay systems.

Then in June, another v8 engine fault, CVE-2025-5419, was corrected after being spotted by Tag.
