It turns out that Marie (Jaz Sinclair) had a very good reason to originally think that Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater) had no powers: that’s not the case.
Toward the end of this week’s episode of “Gen V,” Marie, her sister Annabeth (Keeya King), Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Emma (Lizze Broadway) watch in horror as they discover that the burned old man they correctly assumed was Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) has been controlling Cipher this whole time. It wasn’t Cipher who had the power to control others, it was Thomas Godolkin. And from his hyperbaric chamber, Godolkin controlled the man known as Cipher (who has no powers) and also jumped in and out of the bodies of others, while remaining on life support.
Until Marie brought the super centenarian back to fighting form on this week’s “Gen V”, in the hopes that Thomas Godolkin would help them stop Cipher. But too bad, he East Encrypt! Now Marie and Annabeth must deal with Godolkin’s impending massacre plans, in addition to trying to repair their fragile sibling relationship: Annabeth confesses that she knew Marie was going to kill their parents by accident before it happened, and it has haunted her ever since.

“She’s been completely estranged from the supes, living with her Aunt Pam, and she thinks the supes are monsters. She doesn’t fully grasp her powers, and she doesn’t really understand them,” King said. Variety abiut plays Marie’s precog sister.
And in her confusion over what had happened to them and their parents, Annabeth’s pain and shame after their deaths turned into resentment toward Marie: she chose to blame her sister for something that Annabeth knew was not Marie’s fault.
The twist in the sisters’ story raises the stakes not only for Marie and Annabeth, but also for Cate, Emma, Jordan (Derek Luh/London Thor), Sam (Asa Germann) and Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) ahead of the Season 2 finale of “Gen V” next week. This changes the perspective of what audiences saw in the opening scene of season 1 – the deaths of Marie and Annabeth’s parents – and reveals that Marie is not solely responsible for her parents’ deaths. Annabeth could have said something and stopped him.

“I watched the show and I was like, ‘OK, Annabeth thinks Marie killed her parents,'” King said. “And then when I sat down with our showrunner, Michelle, she explained to me the path that the writers had taken for Annabeth, which was that she actually had these visions and she had held onto them for a very long time.
“As an actor, it kind of involves little moments of pain and regret for not acting on these visions, and then also blaming my sister,” she continued. “Because when you’re angry with yourself, sometimes you say, ‘Where should I put this pain?’ » So sometimes, she relies on Marie, her sister.
