Girlset on ‘Little Miss,’ learning from each other and what’s next

Girlset is in a new era – with a new name and a quest for a new identity.

After more than a year as part of the group VCHA, the Los Angeles-based girl group found itself with four members down from the original six in its first incarnation. VCHA was born from the reality audition show run by JYP Entertainment and Republic Records. A2K (“America to Korea”) and was signed with JYP America, the American brand of the South Korean entertainment giant.

But the group was relaunched in 2025 as Girlset after an internal shakeup. Two of its original members left the group: KG in December 2024, followed by Kaylee in June. KG initially filed a lawsuit claiming “abuse and mistreatment”; Ultimately, a mutually agreed upon separation concluded the lawsuit.

Today, Girlset – made up of members Camila, Lexi, Kendall and Savanna – find themselves searching for a sonic identity. The girls say they hope to try a wide range of genres – something different from the two singles “Commas” and “Little Miss”, which are inspired by 2000s pop. They are looking for the sound that will be unique to them.

“There are definitely fundamental elements in our music that will define us musically as a band while evolving through different genres,” says Kendall, 19. The Hollywood Reporter.

THR spoke with Girlset this week about this quest for their sound, their latest single “Little Miss,” what they think of their rebranding, and what they hope for the future.

What was the reaction to “Little Miss”? I feel like it’s been pretty positive and people have responded well. How do you feel about this?

SAVANNAH: Really happy that everyone loves it as much as we do, so it’s a good turnout.

CAMILLE: Really excited because we had the song for a long time, and we really wanted to release it, because we knew it. I feel like people would like that. That’s really our style, so we’re really happy that it happened like that.

Why was this song the perfect focal point?

KENDALL: I feel like over the time we’ve been away from each other, we’ve been able to work on so many different types of songs that he’s now able to identify where we are, what songs are most like us. That’s why we really thought “Little Miss” was a good song that represented us more towards 2000s R&B. We really wanted to show that. This is why we love “Little Miss” so much.

With the changes you’ve seen and your new beginnings, how do you feel about it all? How do you hope fans feel right now as you enter this new chapter?

LEXIE: It’s a great feeling. It’s definitely something we’ve had a vision for for a while. As Kendall said, we’ve had a lot of time to think about our vision and direction for our future. And being more involved in the process, having a say and creating more ideas about what we’ve been thinking about on our own is honestly a lot of fun. We love seeing it all come together and come to life.

As you learn to be together as the four of you, is there anything you’ve found that really resonates with the four of you that you weren’t expecting? Have you learned anything from each other this way?

KENDALL: We certainly learned a lot from each other. One of the things we love most about being in a group is that we can help each other with everything. We’re always there for each other, but especially in terms of music, I feel like it’s so special to us that we’re all on the same page. We said what we wanted to present ourselves as our music. Having this feels really special and we all know exactly where we want to go.

As artists, you don’t have much say in how you’re perceived, but I guess you have an idealized version of the band that you want people to see. What do you want people to think of when they hear the name Girlset?

CAMILLE: What is important to us is to always be authentic. I think what’s important is staying grounded and being yourself no matter what. Obviously we can’t control how people perceive us, but I feel like as long as we’re true to ourselves it doesn’t really matter because the one who loves us for who we are will be there with us. That’s all that matters. This is what we want to create as a community. We want our fans to feel connected to who we really are, and we want them to also be free and feel like they can be themselves with us too. So we just want to build a really safe space, take them on this journey and become the best version of ourselves.

Are you working on any new music? What kind of music do you hope to continue making now that you’ve released “Little Miss”?

SAVANNAH: We have a lot in store. We’ve been writing a lot more in the last year and a half, and so we’ve definitely explored a lot of different sounds and genres. In the future, you can definitely expect similar, but different sounds [ones] Also. We definitely want to explore other genres as well.

KENDALL: There are definitely fundamental elements in our music that will define us musically as a band while evolving through different genres.

CAMILLE: As I said earlier, we did “Little Miss” a while ago. We wrote and recorded songs, so it’s definitely an evolution of “Little Miss.” I can’t wait for people to see these new genres and different styles that we’ve explored.

What have you learned about yourself as a performer?

CAMILLE: I think it’s important for us to make sure that the group is the priority. We want each of us to have a voice and a role in the group. That’s what’s important to us, making sure everyone shines and everyone shows their personality and talent across the group, making sure we’re all in balance and have the same vision for ourselves.

So how did you learn to communicate with each other about this? Give yourself every time to shine and want that for the people around you… Even on a daily basis while doing this job, communication is so important between you. How did you learn to build this?

LEXIE: We have adapted so much to each other over the years. We’ve been together so much to the point where everything becomes so natural. Having the same vision is also very random, but it’s so easy for the four of us to think about the same things, to create the same things, to really come together and agree on an idea that works for us. I think it’s something that’s really very simple for us in terms of the creative aspect. I like that about us.
