Ghana seals US spot alongside Egypt

Several African nations are close to booking their places at next summer’s World Cup.

We’re already expecting Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia to be at the tournament, and a few others were lucky enough to book their ticket in the final qualifying round.

Mohamed Salah’s Egypt are already qualified, but they would have wanted to win against Guinea-Bissau anyway.

Read on to see how the best of the action unfolded on Sunday night.

Kudus guides Ghana to the World Cup

Ghana secured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Comoros in Kumasi, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Mohammed Kudus early in the second half.

After a cautious opening 45 minutes in which neither team managed to find a breakthrough, the hosts emerged with another goal after the restart.

Just three minutes into the second half, Thomas Partey slipped a smart pass to Kudus, who took a touch before firing a right-footed strike into the top of the net.

Comoros fought bravely and limited Ghana’s chances of extending their lead, but they rarely troubled the home defence, with the Black Stars comfortably coming out of the closing stages to claim all three points.

Egypt does the job

Egypt beat Guinea-Bissau with a 1-0 victory in Cairo, with Mohamed Hamdy’s header proving decisive in a hotly contested qualifying match.

The Pharaohs got off to a good start and took the lead after just 11 minutes when Ahmed Koka delivered a precise cross into the box, met by Hamdy, who headed a firm header into the net.

This proved to be the only goal of the match as Egypt failed to turn their early dominance into a more comfortable scoreline.

Guinea-Bissau grew into the match but struggled to create clear chances against a disciplined Egyptian defense.

Both teams picked up multiple bookings during a physical second half, while substitutions off Hossam Hassan’s bench aimed to preserve the slim lead.
