The summer holidays are over and the school is back in session at Godolkin University, the superhero school in the center of Gen VA spin-off of Ya-sur The theme (although always very adult) of Prime Video Boys. Before the premiere of season 2 of the show on September 17, Polygon discussed with the Co-showrunner Michele Fazekas to draw on the political climate, to find new ways to shock the public, and the intrigues and the characters crossing the main video franchise.
Gen V Season 2 focuses on a secret project dating from the school foundation in 1967, the one that is very important for Boys“Heroes and bad guys. Fazekas says that there is also a link with the next prequel Vought risingwho will follow two of the first worlds in the world and the society that monetized superpowers. Fazekas says that showrunners and writers regularly talk about their plans.
“”[The Boys showrunner] Eric Kripke will say: “Oh hey, for information, we make this story”, or “Can you approach this?” And sometimes we will have a scenario that Eric will look like: “Oh, I like it,” says Fazekas. “So it’s very fluid.”
Kripke provides comments not only on Gen VThe intrigue, but on his humor. THE Boys The franchise is highly meta, combining references to real television programs and films with super-axed versions, like a spin on dog the bonuse hunter which uses an increased smell to follow its targets.
“What I learned about Eric Kripke is that he likes a pop-culture reference that only three people know,” explains Fazekas. “He thinks it’s the funniest thing. In the first season, we had a Paléyfest joke that he thought he was so funny. I think the more a joke is a joke, for him, it’s great. [So we’re] Always trying things – which will be funny, which will be weird, which is not going to look like the way other programs do. “”
Gen V actions Boys“Sensitivities with regard to excessive violence and ridiculous scenarios. Season 2 starts with a group of people taking an experimental and dying drug in various spectacular ways, such as spontaneous combustion, their melting flesh and their falling organs.
“It’s crazy. You certainly need the type of writer who may think that way, and we had them, ”says Fazekas.
Under the blood, Boys is a strong satire of social media, the greed of companies and American policy, dealing with subjects which have become more and more relevant since the first series in 2019. University campuses have become a major front in cultural wars, and Gen V addresses these themes head -on. In season 2, the political ascent of the Homelander equivalent Psychotic Superman (Antony Starr) and the revelation that the former dean of Godolkin was trying to kill all the quips transformed most of the students against people without power.
“You always want to take the real thing and think, How can we put this through the objective of our world? It is not interesting for me to reproduce what is happening in the news. How can we make him make sense in our world? Plans for Gen V Season 2 has radically changed when Star Chance Perdomo died in a motorcycle accident on the shooting path. The team quickly decided not to refound and canceled the five episodes they had already written. They wrote a new season when the Metals Control of Perdomo, Andre Anderson, died while trying to escape the prison that he and his friends were locked up at the end of season 1.
“We knew from the start that we wanted to honor chance and honor Andre,” explains Fazekas. “As we arrived at the end of the season, we looked back and we are like, This whole season is about itWhich was somewhat intentional, and a little just organically.
