Gavin Newsom considering 2028 presidential bid

Gavin Newsom is considering a run for the White House.

During a new interview with CBS Sunday morningtaped Thursday in San Jose, Newsom was asked if he had “seriously considered” running for office after the 2026 midterm elections conclude.

“Yeah, otherwise I would be lying. I would just be lying. And I’m not — I can’t do that,” Newsom said before adding that the decision is years away, “Fate will determine that.”

The California governor’s term ends in January 2027. He cannot run again due to term limits.

Newsom also spoke about the challenges he has faced in his life, such as dyslexia, and whether he was surprised to see where he is currently.

“I have no idea,” he added about whether he will run. “The idea that a guy who got a 960 on the SAT, who still struggled to read scripts, who was always at the back of the class, the idea that we could even throw that away is, in and of itself, extraordinary. Who the hell knows? I can’t wait to see who shows up in 2028 and who meets that moment. That’s the question before the American people.”

Besides Newsom, Kamala Harris also recently explained that she is not ruling out another run for the White House. “I’m not finished,” Harris told the BBC.

The former vice president added, however, that she has not yet decided whether or not to run for president in 2028. “I’ve lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones. And there are many ways to serve,” Harris said. “I never listened to the polls.”
