According to BBC News, it is understood that Lineker, the best paid BBC presenter, will no longer present a cup of the Football World Cup in 2026, nor the games of the FA Cup of next season, as expected. Instead, he should leave the company after the last “Match of the Day” program on Sunday. An official announcement is expected today. Variety contacted the BBC to comment.
This is not the first controversy of Lineker. In 2023, the BBC said that it had a “ frank conversation ” with the star after having criticized the government’s asylum policy, comparing the language “not different from that used by Germany in the 1930s”.
