Nintendo has apparently discontinued Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle, following a leaked internal memo and subsequent confirmation from GameStop.
A great saving grace for Mario Kart World – following the negative price reaction and general criticism – was the fact that a majority of people paid just $50 for the game as part of the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle offered at the console’s launch. While $80 was a frankly ridiculous price, especially after Mario Kart World was considered a disappointment by many (even though it never had any hope of holding up to 11 years of accumulation), Nintendo offering a cheaper way to get it made it an easy sell.
However, when the bundle was announced, Nintendo noted that the bundle would be a “limited-time production until fall 2025”, and true to his word, it seems that the arrival of winter has put an end to this bundle as well.
As published by Nintendo on Twitterwhat is believed to be a leaked internal GameStop memo states: “This bundle SKU has now reached the end of its life cycle and additional units will no longer be produced.” The memo states that this bundle should be recommended to customers due to the savings, adding that “future restocking of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be the base console.”
GameStop itself then took to Twitterapparently confirming the validity of this memo, saying: “The Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle will no longer be produced,” inviting people to pick up the bundle “while supplies last.” At the time of writing, the pack is still available on the Nintendo Store website, so there are probably still a few left.
Given that Nintendo also released a Pokemon Legends: ZA Nintendo Switch 2 bundle earlier this year, I think it’s safe to assume that major releases (presumably the Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing games of the world) could get their own bundles, offering a discount on included games in the future. And considering how many times Nintendo bundled Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the original Switch, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle returned in the future as a Black Friday deal.
Mario Kart World’s update makes it easier to play with friends, a less pathetic intermission track, and finally lets you crank that soundtrack up to the only option you need: “Loud.”
