Game of Thrones prequel is coming

It’s time to return to the Seven Kingdoms.

HBO has released the first trailer for “The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” a prequel to “Game of Thrones.” The six-episode, half-hour drama will premiere on January 18.

The official diary for the series reads: “A century before the events of “Game of Thrones”, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros, a naive but courageous young knight, Ser Duncan the Great, and his little squire, Egg. In a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet faded from living memory, great destinies, enemies powerful and dangerous feats. await these improbable and incomparable friends.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is based on the novels by author George RR Martin titled “Tales of Dunk and Egg”. Peter Claffey plays Ser Duncan the Great, a hedge knight in Westeros, and Dexter Sol Ansell is his little squire Egg, who is actually Prince Aegon Targaryen (unrelated to any of the characters of the same name in the other HBO prequel series “House of the Dragon.”)

The show also stars Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall and Danny Webb.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is written and produced by Martin and Ira Parker (“House of the Dragon”). Ryan Condal (“House of the Dragon”), Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris and Sarah Bradshaw will also executive produce the series. Adina Smith (“Lessons In Chemistry,” “Hanna”) will direct three of the season’s six episodes, while Harris will direct the final three episodes of the season.
