Fwa Football of the year 2024/25: Mohamed Salah wins the best Gong for Men while Séssia Russo claims the female prize | Football news
The Liverpool striker, Mohamed Salah, was elected the footballer of the year of the 2024/25 football writers association, the arsenal striker Alessia Russo winning the female prize.
Salah won this century by the biggest margin, landing almost 90% of all the votes expressed.
He scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists this season to help Liverpool win the Premier League, and is about to be the top scorer in the Division.
The Egyptian striker won the footballer of the FWA year for a third time after victory in 2017/18 and 2021/22.
He moves the level of 32 years with the three FWA prices of the former Arsenal Thierry Henry (2002/2003, 2003/2004 and 2005/2006).
Russo becomes the second arsenal player to win the award after Vivianne Miedema in 2020. The great interest in the female game among the members of the FWA was reflected by the fact that 36 different players received votes
The English international excelled in his second season in Arsenal, in particular under the new manager Renee Slegers.
She scored 12 goals in 20 WSL games and is on the right track to win the golden boot alongside Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw by Man City.
She could claim the prize in the last WSL match of the Gunners of the season while they compete with the former Russo team, Man Utd, for second place in the table.

Russo never won the FWA Prize before, but won the player’s double price of the month WSL and the goal of the month in December. The striker will also play in his first Champions League final later this month, after scoring seven goals in competition so far this season.

“In the end, it is a game of figures. And the figures of Mohamed Salah tell the story. Twenty-eight goals. Eighteen assists. The player who scored the most goals and has set the most goals must be the footballer of the year of the association of football screenwriters.
“This total of 46 goals and combined assists is 17 more than Alexander Isak and almost double that of any other player in the Premier League.
“When these scandalous figures also delivered the title of Premier League to Liverpool, there can be no serious argument for any other candidate. Salah was the difference manufacturer this season, the decisive figure for the exceptional team of the country.”
