FromSoftware delays port of Elden Ring to Nintendo Switch 2

Get up, tarnish…next year

Nintendo Switch 2 players eager to venture through the Lands Between will have to wait a little longer. FromSoftware announced Thursday that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is delayed from its 2025 release window to next year.

The studio notes that while development on the Nintendo Switch 2 port “continues without reservation until release,” FromSoftware has “decided to move the launch to 2026 to allow time for performance adjustments,” according to a post on X from the Elden Ring account. “We apologize to the players who are looking forward to the match and thank you for your patience and support.”

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition getting kicked out for “performance adjustments” isn’t too surprising. Hands-on reports from Gamescom in August painted a less-than-stellar picture of the Switch 2 port. It reportedly suffered from frame rate drops and other graphical issues when essentially doing anything other than keeping the player character still.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is designed to be a porting machine for games that the original Switch couldn’t handle. It was launched with games like Divided fiction And Cyberpunk 2077which worked very well and served as an early indicator of what the Switch 2 is capable of. Star Wars Outlaws landed on Switch 2 last month and is also an excellent port that holds its own on Nintendo’s hardware.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition It will take a little more time in the game’s development oven to get to a place similar to these ports. It will be released during 2026 and will include the base game as well as the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
