The Midlothian fire service says they cry more than a station dog, but part of their family.
On Tuesday morning, the department announced that the fire station dog 1, Riggs, was found dead after being hit by a car.
The department reported for the first time Riggs disappeared on Friday. They said that it had been seen for the last time on the station’s safety images around 2:45 p.m., walking towards the road 287 towards us.
The officials said they had received citizens’ reports from Riggs near the ramp, and another declaring that a small black SUV was trying to pick him up.
The fire service said that the Carrie Butterfield volunteer and her follow -up dog ball had tried to locate Riggs, but lost her scent near the area where he disappeared.
Fire officials said that even if it was not the result they hoped, they are grateful to the community’s support.
“Since those who have helped to search, have shared messages, distributed leaflets, made donations or simply kept riggs in their thoughts – your kindness and compassion have meant the world for us,” said the fire service.
The civil servants did not reveal where the dog was found or if the reward of $ 2,500 offered to locate Riggs has been issued.
