Frank ‘feels confidence’ from Tottenham hierarchy despite speculation over future

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank believes he has the backing of the owners despite growing speculation over his future at the club.

A large section of Spurs fans have turned against the Dane, deeming his position untenable following the embarrassing 2-1 home defeat to West Ham at the weekend.

This extends a run of just 2 wins from 11 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Frank, who has been constantly booed and criticized by those who want him out.

Other reports claimed Frank’s job was under serious threat following an internal meeting on Sunday, but the former Brentford boss fought back in his latest press conference.

He said: “As I’ve said many times, as long as we win football matches and make sure we win enough, everyone will support us. It’s not about me. It’s about supporting the team, the players.

“We play a match tomorrow against a very good German team and we are a bit limited in terms of players available. We have 11 outfield players available for the match from among our usual first team players.

“One of them is Xavi [Simons] and he didn’t practice today because there was a bad tackle from behind that hurt his ankle, but because he is so mentally strong, he will play tomorrow despite the pain.

“Great courage to Xavi. And I don’t understand why it’s not a red card, but it’s for a bigger discussion.

“We have 11 players available and we probably have three players who need to attack massively to get through 90 minutes physically, that’s why we need everyone to support us.

“We need everyone to support us from the first minute. Especially the team, especially the players. If we get that support, anything can happen. Magic can happen.”

“The three most important elements of being resilient are having good values and I believe I’m a man who has good values. Secondly, you know the reality and the reality is that one in five people don’t like you no matter what you do and one in five people like you no matter what you do – both sides are probably biased no matter what you do.”

Frank fuels the fire with Tel’s decision

Spurs host Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night in a crucial Champions League clash, a match that could make or break their hopes of automatic qualification.

With a huge pile of injuries not doing Frank any favors, he was questioned again after opting to replace Mathys Tel with Dominic Solanke in the European squad for the match.

Solanke has only just returned from injury and is yet to play more than 30 minutes for the club in 2026, while Tel has been one of the few players praised for his efforts in recent weeks.

Frank’s response sums up his general feeling towards the Spurs fan base.

He added: “The reality is that not everyone will like you.

“If your back is against the wall, you fight. I’m energetic and I fight. It’s not about me, we have to win football games and we have to do it together.

“We are ready and focused on the game together and the players look good.

“The fans are crucial. I can’t see any club performing well without the fans and it’s just that it hasn’t been as smooth or free-flowing as we would like. There are a bit too many ups and downs. Unfortunately, it’s a results business and the emotions are there too.

“There are many signs that things are going in the right direction. We still have to find a way to get across the finish line and I think we are a lot closer than we think.

“I think they’ve been going in the right direction pretty consistently and that’s a little thing that needs to happen for us before we win 2-1 against West Ham and 3-2 against Bournemouth.

“I don’t think we’re that far away.”
