Immersive experiences studio Wevr opens European base in Malta

EXCLUSIVE: Immersive experience production studio Wevr, which counts Warner Bros Discovery among its investors, has opened a European office in Malta.
Wevr co-founder and CEO Neville Spiteri said the foundation meant his company was “positioned to bring together American and European talent, advancing the frontier of global immersive entertainment.”
The Venice Beach-based studio, which focuses on developing and producing immersive experiences from Los Angeles, will establish a talent residency program in Malta.
Wevr is known for social experiences like The Blu, in which teams of up to six people don VR headsets and travel to the underwater world on an extraordinary mission to save endangered blue whales.
Malta is known for its close ties to Hollywood. Photos such as Gladiator and series including Game of Thrones toured there, taking advantage of the advantageous tax reduction system and the production centers.
Wevr partners with Malta Enterprise, Gaming Malta and the Malta Film Commission to attract an international pool of artists, designers and developers.
“Malta is delighted to welcome Wevr,” said George Gregory, CEO of Malta Enterprise. “Our incentives and robust infrastructure foster innovative businesses, and Wevr’s presence will elevate Malta’s role in next-generation entertainment. »
“Wevr’s decision to establish its European studio in Malta is a clear vote of confidence in our growing creative and digital industries,” added Silvio Schembri, Malta’s Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects. “By bringing together Wevr’s world-class expertise with Malta’s dynamic ecosystem in film, gaming and digital media, we are creating new high-quality jobs, developing local talent and opening up new opportunities for our young creatives and entrepreneurs.
