France TV Distribution launches Les Soins de Laura, winner of La Rochelle

France TV Distribution is at the helm of “The Treatments of Laura”, a critically acclaimed social thriller that recently won an award at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival. The international distributor will launch sales at Mipcom in Cannes next week.

Produced by Tetra Media Fiction and Torcello, the four-part series stars Valérie Bonneton (“Little White Lies”) as Laura, a small-town pharmacist who runs a support group for victims of domestic violence. When a member of her group is murdered before her eyes and another’s cry for help goes unanswered, Laura is driven to action. Consumed by grief and anger at a system that turns a blind eye, she takes justice into her own hands. But how far is she willing to go to defend the women she is sworn to protect?

Speaking to Le Parisien, co-creators Marie Kremer and Frédéric Krivine (“A French Village”) explained that while the series is not based on a true story, it is deeply inspired by real social issues. Kremer said they wanted to explore “the lack of justice for women” through fiction, telling the story from the perspective of someone who is not a direct victim to help viewers identify more closely with her.

Director Akim Isker said Bonneton’s character reflects “us, the audience”, an ordinary person forced to act when institutions fail. “We don’t offer answers,” he added. “Our goal is to raise questions and spark debate. »

For Bonneton, the shoot was one of the most emotionally difficult of his career. “It was painful and very difficult. I was shaken,” she says, referring to her meetings with real survivors of domestic violence and the sobering statistics that 113 French women were killed by a partner or ex-partner in 2025, compared to 118 in 2024.

“We all know women who have been through this,” Bonneton continued. “And me too. Every year, 200,000 women file complaints, but many more keep silent out of fear. I understand Laura, she can’t take it anymore. She knows that more women will die and she takes action. She is stronger than her, beyond reason, almost a sacrifice. I hope that this series will help bring change. I want to carry the voices of these women.”
