Anthony Volpe of Yankees, error leader, minimize costly decisions

Toronto – Anthony Volpe has regressed defensively this year.

The New York Yankees stopped on Monday’s match against the Blue Jays of Toronto with Zero Outs above average, tied in the 19th rank among 35 qualified stops this season. During its recruit year, Volpe won the Gold Glove prize from the American League. Last year, he was a finalist. This year, Volpe is leading all the players of the American League with 11 errors.

Volpe made two doubtful defensive decisions during the sixth round of New York’s defeat of 5-4 against the Blue Jays. Without withdrawals, a runner in second position and the Yankees Up 3-1, the central field player of Toronto Myles Straw struck the ground for volp in the hole. Volpe varied to his right, aligned the ball and pulled it in front of the third basic player of the Yankees, Jazz Chisholm Jr., allowing Straw to take second place on the launch error.

The Blue Jays scored on a simple in the next stick, reducing the advance of the Yankees to 3-2. Instead of standing on the second goal, the straw was now 90 feet from the liaison race because of the bad volpe throw. Replay has shown that Volpe had no chance of playing the game to the third goal, yet him and the Yankees manager Aaron Boone had no problem with the room that allowed a free progress for the Blue Jays.

“There are parts that you are going to be aggressive,” said Volpe. “I’m going to go for this game every time. The ball is overturned and it’s not a mistake. I expect to make this game, whether in the book or not.”

But Chisholm did not have the opportunity to drop the volpe jet. He should have made a Superman jump on Davis Schneider, who ran towards the third goal, to have even a distant chance of making an incredible label for the exit.

“I have no problem going to third place because there is obviously no game in this situation for first, but we must just be precise with the ball,” said Boone.

Volpe could have maintained the ball so as not to allow Straw to go into a score position, so it is weird that the two parties do not become the decision to launch the ball. A few strikers later, Volpe made another launch that he should not have tried.

The Blue Jays Ernie Clement stop hit a group in the hole with Volpe and launched a single on the ground. Volpe tried to make a melee throw to get Clement at first, but Clement easily beat the throw. By launching first, Nathan Lukes, who was on the second goal, went in third place.

Volpe had no regrets with his decision to try to throw Clement at first, although he was safe of about 10 feet.

“Not at all,” said Volpe when he was asked if he was in the second hard. “You have to play this game on this ball.”

Boone added: “It is a game that a curl stop will generally try to do. Obviously, clement short enough. (De) my point of view, I had the impression that he was not going to play.”

Two strikers later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. tore a single two points to give Blue Jays an advance of 5-3. It is impossible to know how the Channel could have been looking for the Yankees if Volpe had made two more intelligent defensive decisions.

Last week in Cincinnati, Boone was questioned about the decline in defensive plane this season. He stuck for his curl stop and minimized everything back defensively that the statistics say that Volpe did.

“I would say that he made two or three more mistakes than his normal trajectory,” said Boone. “It’s two or three rooms. I still think he has a very good global defensive season.

The regression of defensive volpe this year is worrying. The defense has been his business card since his arrival at the majors three years ago. He has difficulty in the plate and was negatively classified on the basics, according to Fangraphs. The way for him to increase his value, especially in a position of choice, is to be better defensively. But at the moment, the statistics and the band show that he has been an intermediate defender.
