Four heads n ° 1 fall in the opening day of the NCAA baseball tournament

May 30, 2025 will be a special day for many university baseball programs. 24 hours filled with teams rewriting history and winning a baoster of confidence for ages.
On the day of opening the NCAA 2025 baseball tournament, four heads n ° 4 challenged the chances and upset the seeds n ° 1 on their domestic lawn.
Here’s how it happened.
N ° 4 Saint Mary (CA) Stunning n ° 1 Oregon State 6-4
Upon entering the NCAA 2025 baseball tournament, Saint Mary’s (CA) had not forgotten his appearance with two defeats during the 2016 Regional.
Gaels did not put their deep motivation into words which had accumulated over nine years. Instead, their victory over the seeded n ° 1 of Oregon State, 6-4, to launch the regional, spoke of itself.
Saint Mary scored three points in the first and seventh round to lower the Beavers and win the very first victory of the program tournament.
They prospered in simple and struck by throws in the first. The first goal player Eddie Madrigal has chosen to focus on the first throw of the match, and, although the right -hander of Oregon State, Eric Segura, withdrew the next striker, the following five strikers reached the base. A single, walks and strikes by the field has each resulted in a race. Segura’s day ended before the end of the round.
The Beavers reduced the 3-0 advance of Gaels to a third behind the field of left defender Gavin Turley at the center right.
Righty AJ Hutcheson, who replaced Segura, was able to calm the storm, abandoning only three strokes in five sleeves. However, the Gaels and the designated striker Bria Duroff, woke up after the Oregon State made the keys to the right -hander Laif Palmer.
Duroff broke a three-point home run on the left field in the seventh to do so 6-2.

The Oregon State responded with a solo circuit and a triple RBI in the lower half of the frame, but the Gaels pitching staff triggered it later, abandoning zero blow during the last two sleeves.
The start of the left -hander Dylan Delvecchio withdrew 10 in 6.2 innings, abandoning four points in seven strokes. The right -hander Daniel Guevara Castro slammed the door, making 2.1 innings and making no safe and short blow with six stick withdraws.
The Beavers will play TCU n ° 2 on Saturday, and Saint Mary’s will face n ° 3 in southern California.
N ° 4 Columbia Breath N ° 1 Southern Miss 11-4
Columbia entered the NCAA tournament with two collision worlds. The Lions won a sequence of nine consecutive victories but had not beaten the head of their region in the history of the program – only one road could win.
At the end of Friday, Columbia had marked the story and his sequence of victories had reached two figures.
The Lions shot the n ° 1 in the south of haute couture, winning 11-4 behind the first-rate performance in marble and on the mound. Eight players harvested at least a safe blow, and they only granted one point in the last five rounds.
The Lions showed lightning of what was going to happen in the first and third with two points, but was launched in fourth. They scored four points with the help of the Sam Miller and double stop stop and the third basic player Griffin Palfrey. The Golden Eagles nailed on a race in the third and two in fourth, but everything was blue and white from there.
Columbia would score five points in the last two rounds of the competition, while Southern Miss was silent in marble. They collected a single round after the fourth round, never able to find a rhythm and fight the high power offensive of the Lions.
The left starter, Jagger Edwards, kept the lions afloat in his 3.1 work sleeves, but it was the enclosure of the lifts that kept the golden unbalanced eagles. The right -handers Alex Sotiropoulos and Tomas Lopez granted only three strokes and withdrew five out of 24 strikers.
Southern Miss will face n ° 2 in Alabama on Saturday in the support of the loser. Columbia will face n ° 3 Miami (FL).
N ° 4 Murray State holds the number 1 ole Miss in Thriller
It is time to party as in 1979, at least in Murray, Ky.
The No. 4 of Murray State won his first victory at the NCAA tournament since 1979 Friday, beating No. 1 Ole Miss, 9-6, behind the ninth and monstrous player of the ninth round of the right defender Dustin Mercer.
It was a handgun, a show whose winner would be determined by the user who landed for more strokes. The runners did exactly that, rarely leaving their foot out of the gas pedal and plant at least one six -round race to hold the rebels.
Whenever a team marked, the other was a few seconds to do the same thing. Murray State scored four points during her first two plaque trips, while Ole Miss placed five in third and fourth. The runners added two others in the fifth and sixth, and the rebels put one through the plate on the seventh.
He was tied 6-6 entering the last two rounds.
It was then that Murray State, in particular the second basic player Dom Decker and Mercer, transmitted two final shots that Ole Miss could not overcome.
Decker struck a simple RBI two points to the right in the eighth, and Mercer torn off a double of two RBI RCIs on the third baseline in the ninth.

Mercer, the MVC MVP of the MVC tournament, finished 4-5 with four doubles and three points produced.
The response of the rebels was laudable, loading the bases with two withdrawals in the final setting, but they could not capitalize, because the designated striker Campbell Smithwick came out to end the game.
Murray State will face on Saturday 2 Georgia Tech on Saturday. Ole Miss will face n ° 3 Western Kentucky.
N ° 4 Utah Valley Shocks No. 1 Oregon in chaotic battle
Utah Valley was the third seeded n ° 4 of the day to win his very first NCAA tournament competition on Friday, beating Oregon n ° 1, 6-5, in a match which is the result was not predictable before the final.
The two teams went down over the thread while the end -of -part gathering of the Ducks failed.
Although seven points were presented in the third round between the two teams that led to the head of Utah Valley 4-3, fans did not need their popcorn and 3D glasses before the seventh.
Still 4-3, the left-hand player Jimmy de Anda increased the three-way Wolverines cushion with a single of two RBIs in the middle. The Ducks responded with the right defender drew Homer de Smith in the eighth, but lost their momentum with a marble game to end the Channel.
The left -hand player Anson Aroz tried to score on a sacrificial fly, but was called and ejected for malicious contact because of his marble collision with the receiver of Utah Valley Mason Strong. Aroz will not be able to play in Oregon’s Saturday match due to the ejection.
