Former Auburn QB Ashton Daniels details his visit to Florida State and meeting with OC Gus Malzahn

State of Florida had two shifts on campus Monday with Florida transfer DJ Lagway and Auburn transfer Ashton Daniels both spend time in Tallahassee.

Daniels’ call to visit FSU had to do with the Seminoles’ coaching staff and the pedigree of the football program.

“Just the coaching staff, fantastic staff. This place is amazing,” Daniels said of why he wanted to visit FSU. “The pedigree of FSU football is just incredible and it’s something I would come see if I wanted to be a part of it. I had a great day and these people are incredible, this place is incredible.”

He met a lot of offensive coordinators Gus Malzahn during the visit, watching tape of some of his former quarterbacks at Auburn, the program Daniels and Malzahn spent time at.

“Coach Malzahn has always done a great job with any quarterback in his offense,” he said of Malzahn. “Just being able to build an offense around them. I kind of watched some tape of Cam Newton, some Nick Marshall adhesive tape. Obviously with my connection to Auburn and his connection to Auburn as well. He’s a fantastic coordinator and I know whoever is in that position, he’ll do a great job of building an offense around them and making sure that spot gets going. “

Daniels, who has one year of eligibility remaining, says his intention is “absolutely” to be QB1 at his next school. He is looking to develop further and win wherever he lands.

“A place where I can develop and a game where I can win,” Daniels said in response to what he is looking for in his next school. “I think those are really the most important things for me. I have one year left, so I’m trying to win. I’m trying to go to the championship.”

Daniels, who was visited Baylor before FSU, he doesn’t know if he will come Kentucky as initially planned.

He doesn’t yet know when he will make a decision.

247Sports ranks Daniels as the 313th overall pick and the 26th quarterback in the transfer portal.
