HBO MAX subscribers lose access to CNN Livestream on November 17

HBO Max subscribers will no longer be able to watch CNN from the streaming platform on November 17, informed Warner Bros. customers. Discovery (WBD).
After this date, HBO Max subscribers will always be able to watch CNN content, including programs and documentaries, on demand.
The CNN Max Livestream for HBO Max has been launched as a beta version opened in September 2023. Since then, it has presented live programming from the US ARM of CNN and CNN International, as well as content specially designed for HBO Max.
WBD pulls the HBO Max CNN canal while preparing to launch an autonomous CNN streaming service, inevitably introducing more fragmentation to the booming streaming industry. The streaming service is supposed to be launched this fall and give access to original CNN programming and journalism, including “a selection of live channels, catch -up and video programming features on demand,” said an ad in May.
In a press release today, Alex MacCallum, executive vice-president of digital products and services for CNN, said:
CNN has taken advantage of its two years to offer a flow of new 24/7 live to HBO Max customers. We have learned from the big base of HBO Max subscribers what people want and appreciate the most CNN, and with the launch of our own new streaming subscription offer to come later this fall, we are impatient to build this and develop our audience with this new unique offer.
WBD will sell subscriptions to the new CNN streaming service as part of an “All Access” subscription which will include the possibility of reading items on payment walls on the CNN website.
