The city of New Orleans said that the resident had the neurovasive form of the disease.

Managers ask residents to limit outdoor activities between twilight and dawn, use insectors approved by EPA and their house on mosquito by keeping screens on windows and doors.

The city of New Orleans offered the following advice:

  • Use repellents containing active ingredients recorded by EPA such as deet, picaridine, IR3535 or lemon eucalyptus oil. Always follow the product instructions when using repellents.
  • When possible, limit outdoor activities between twilight and dawn, when mosquitoes are the most active.
  • Use air conditioning or sit in the air flow of an outside fan.
