First look at ABSOLUTE BATMAN and WONDER WOMAN’s first meeting leaked; Zatanna’s Absolute Design Revealed

As Marvel Comics prepares to end its Ultimate Universe, the DC Comics Absolute Universe continues to go from strength to strength. Now, thanks to Bleeding Cool, we have a sneak peek at January Absolute Batman #16 And Absolute Wonder Woman #16.

In the Caped Crusader title, Batman will seek help from Diana Prince to save his friend Waylon (now Killer Croc). Interestingly, this hulking Bruce Wayne seems more than a worthy adversary for the Amazon as they come face to face in this leaked page.

We also get our first look at the Absolute version of Zatanna. She doesn’t look too different, but has clearly been modernized as part of this new vision of the DC Universe.

However, it looks like we can expect Zatanna to be an antagonist, as the witch will target Wonder Woman with the intent of killing her. It might take a heroic turn at some point, but as the solicitation says, “Diana’s life will never be the same” after this meeting.

Discussing the impact of the Absolute line, Absolute Batman Writer Scott Snyder once said: “[The series has] reaffirmed everything I love about the medium. The joy of making people wait every month, of giving them something to talk about, something that hits hard and sticks.”

“There is a moment of reckoning in comics” he continued. “If we don’t focus on what makes monthly comics special, we won’t survive in a tough economy. So we’re all taking our biggest risks.”

“In recent years, we have seen a return to the monthly fundamentals of comics,” Snyder added. “You’re seeing more and more shows that are bold, big moments that will get people talking… cliffhangers, reminders of what the characters are struggling with. It’s a joy to keep them waiting every month.”
