Find out who accumulated all 9s at the signing party and needs to stay another week

Since his Dedication Night in the ballroom, I’d like to dedicate this Week 5 recap to all the Gen Zers who have dutifully followed Robert Irwin and the rest of the Dancing with the stars competitors on TikTok. I may have dragged out the special theme party two weeks ago, but credit must be given to this (otherwise plagued) platform. Kids love sharing videos and chewing fat on the latest episode of DWTSlike in the old days, when we gathered around the 20th century water fountain to talk about last night. Lost. Will our unpredictable youth save the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy from extinction? I’m counting on it!
On Tuesday, former pro Kym Johnson was in the house to expertly judge as the Dedication Night winners were incorporated into each issue. Keep your hats on…
Comedian Andy Richter with his partner Emma Slater. Mr. Living on borrowed time dedicated his salsa to his daughter Cornelia, who stole the show when she joined Big Poppa on the dance floor and host Alfonso Ribeiro called her the most beautiful girl in the world. Oh, and Richter danced too; Carrie Ann Inaba even said he showed improvement! “I’m so excited to watch you every week,” said Johnson, who really brought her A game to the panel. Honestly, she excelled at offering dance tips that the contestants can actually understand. Anyway, here’s the rest of his quote: “I can relate to you and Emma. I danced with Jerry Springer, and we had the lowest scores every week… You connect with people.” SCORE: 24 of 40

Danielle Fishel (A boy meets the world) with Pasha Pashkov. Well, it was a choice: Fishel decided to invite William Daniels, his former Boy co-star who is now 98, to join her in the ballroom. Before you scream elder abuseDaniels just had to stand against a desk while his former “student” performed a playful jive to Twenty Cent Crush’s “Boy Meets World.” Inaba had nothing positive to say – which seemed to be a trend of the evening – but Johnson offered constructive criticism. “It made everyone’s nostalgic hearts happy,” she said. “There was so much jive content in there. You dance effortlessly, but I feel like you can have a little more attack in your extensions.” SCORE: 29 of 31
Jen Affleck (The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives) with Jan Ravnik. Affleck’s cute little ma Maria joined their otherwise basic Viennese waltz for “Rescue.” Ravnik is a newbie so he’s obviously in there learn as you go fashion, but that doesn’t really help Affleck stand out from the pack. Maybe he just skipped waltz class at Dance U? Regardless, the judges were disappointed. “We told you before, it’s getting better but you have to continue this flow, sometimes you have to start it a little,” said Bruno Tonioli. SCORE: 29 of 40
Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying with Rylee Arnold. We may be waiting forever for a male-male partnership to compete DWTSbut at least we got to see Hoying’s husband, Mark, participate in her foxtrot! Actually, scratch that; Poor Mark only got to grab Hoying’s mic at the start of the number (he sang his own Pentatonix song “Parallel”) and then joined his husband at the end to… ugh, lie down on the ground. Boo! At least we learned that Scott and Mark are expecting their first child via surrogate. “It was a real foxtrot of love,” Tonioli said. “We all felt it. I felt you were much more comfortable, your lines are improving.” SCORE: 30 out of 40
Actor Elaine Hendrix with Alan Bersten. Hendrix invited his best friend and co-star in The parental trap Lisa Ann Walter will join them for their foxtrot on “This Will Be” (which happened to be part of The parental trap score). Hendrix is an elegant dancer and doesn’t need a gimmick (or Dennis Quaid as a guest in the audience) to catch the judges’ attention, but it was a gas watching Bersten waltz with two beauties at once. And Ribeiro was right that Walter deserved to compete next season; THE Abbott Elementary School the actress can certainly shake a tail feather. “It was amazing, what a wonderful way to celebrate friendship,” Inaba said. “Alan, you did a great job, the way you put everything together.” SCORE: 30 out of 40

Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles with Ezra Sosa. Chiles’ father, Timothy, was the one who introduced his daughter to gymnastics after she was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, so she owes him her life, if not her medal. Dressed in a pink satin suit, the pop was briefly able to join Chili and Sosa in their gentle (if unenthusiastic) Viennese waltz to John Mayer’s “Daughters.” Someone forgot to remind a visibly nervous Timothy to smile! “There’s nothing better than a father-daughter dance,” Johnson said. “Jordan, you led your father and you did it wonderfully. You have the determination to see it through to the end.” SCORE: 32 out of 40
Whitney Leavitt (The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives) with Mark Ballas. Leavitt surprised Ballas by saying she only dated her husband Conner for four months before exchanging vows. And it turns out that Conner is a big softy! He choked up thinking that his wife not only wanted to dedicate her contemporary number to their union, but wanted him to join in their performance of Jamal Roberts’ “Heal.” Ballas almost did his job too well; Conner almost upstaged his popular wife on the dance floor. “Dancing is so healing and it was so beautiful to see you share this moment with your husband,” Derek Hough said. “Wow, Conner, you’re a dancer!” SCORE: 33 of 40
Wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin with Witney Carson. Irwin reminded viewers that he was only 2 years old when his father Steve died, so he started getting choked up talking about his mother Terri and how she raised two children on her own. So it should come as no surprise that almost everyone let their hair down as they watched the duo perform a contemporary of Phil Collins’ “You’ll Be in My Heart.” The routine ended with Irwin’s mother joining her beautiful boy for a few steps and a big hug. “You gave us your whole heart and soul,” Tonioi said. “It was the true expression of eternal love.” This comment earned him a hug from Irwin. SCORE: 35 out of 40

Social media personality Alix Earle with Val Chmerkovskiy. Earle ended the show by dedicating his stunning contemporary to his younger sister Izabel. Inaba once again had nothing positive to say, prompting Hough to comment on all the negativity from that night when she was supposedly over it. love. Oh, to be a fly on the wall after the cameras stop rolling! Regardless, Hough told Earle, “You made it look so natural.” SCORE: 35 out of 40
Reality TV star Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach. Efron brought his 5-year-old sister Olivia to join their contemporary number “Rewrite the Stars” by Zac Efron and Zendaya. It started with Efron lifting the adorable child – who could teach a few of his brother’s rivals how to correctly point their toes – before Karagach took over with his joyful choreography. “I felt this story deep in my soul,” Inaba said. “The love you feel for her permeates every step of this dance.” SCORE: 36 of 40
Another record night for votes; the show exceeded 50 million! There was good news everywhere; no one went home at the signing party. I wonder if Inaba was happy about that?
It is Wicked evening next week.
