Filming has officially wrapped on the FRIDAY THE 13TH prequel series starring Linda Cardellini
After spending over 15 years sleeping at the bottom of a lake due to complex character rights issues, Jason Voorhees is finally ready to return to terrorize a new group of teenage camp counselors.
But before Jason can don his iconic hockey mask and machete, it’s his mother who will do the killing.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (Welcome to Derry) announced that production had officially ended Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lakewhich should star Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks, Scooby-Doo) as Jason’s mother. This version of Pamela Voorhees is described as “a mother who gave up her singing career to raise a child with special needs and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.”
Chucky And Long bright river star Callum Vinson will play Jason as a child, and the cast also includes Nick Cordileone (Warrior), Joy Suprano (Fleishman is in trouble), Danielle Kotch (Director’s Cut), and Phoenix Parnevik (Bel Air) as future victims of Voorhees, Ralph, Rita, Claudette and Barry.
“The Crystal Lake wrap party was epic!” Kane writes on Instagram. “I am madly in love and totally in awe of this group of stellar artists and humans. A guy couldn’t ask for a more talented and wonderful group of collaborators. S1 (almost not quite) done and dusted. More please and thank you.”

Kane shared the following statement when he took over as showrunner.
“From the moment I saw Jason Voorhees pop a man’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the age of 8, I knew my creative path was one day destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask. Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher film, and nothing defined the genre more than Friday the 13th. I couldn’t be more excited to the idea of having the opportunity to contribute to a chapter of this iconic franchise, especially with such intrepid partners as Peacock and A24.
From what we can gather, Crystal Lake will focus on Pamela Voorhees who plots revenge against the camp counselors who didn’t pay attention when her son drowned. It remains to be seen whether Jason will have survived his accident or will return as a resurrected killing machine (later films have introduced supernatural elements).
Either way, we’re guessing Jason will end up choosing the mask if the series continues beyond a single season.
