Fedexcup Playoffs: Justin Rose says that the St Jude championship on the third hole of the playoffs against JJ Spaun after Tommy Fleetwood fades | News Golf

Justin Rose produced a sensational finish in the Fedex St Jude championship with six birdies in his last eight holes to win a match against the United States, the open JJ Spaun champion.
The Englishman, who, at 45, became the oldest European to win the PGA Tour in the modern era, looked at this after a Bogey on the 12th dropped to 12 sous, two of the rhythm with the leader of the night Tommy Fleetwood, the world no 1 Scottie Scheffler and Spaun before him.
But four birdies of the 14th catapulted him at the top of the classification and he missed a 13 feet in the last to win squarely while he finished 16 sous draw with Spaun, which produced a Birdie-Birdie finish.
Meanwhile, the expectation of Fleetwood for a first title of PGA Tour continues after another desperately disappointing finish.
The Englishman looked perfectly placed to put an end to his long wait for a victory on the tour when he made three birdies in four holes on the nine rear to move two clear shots with three remaining holes.
However, a finish by-Bogey-Sta saw him return his lead while Rose and Spaun capitalized to jump him at the top.
In the sudden mortality stroke, Rose produced two other birdies in three holes – a clutch effort after Spaun fled at a distance – with the second of 14 feet after the Spaun was half at this distance turning decisive while his opponent’s attempt to extend the competition ran after.
Rose ‘has never stopped believing’
“It was an incredible 90 minutes. I never stopped believing,” said Rose in her interview after round.
“I played an incredible golf course when I got off the section and I had so much fun. When I bring my best, I know I’m good enough to play against the best players in the world.
“Everyone calls me meticulous, precise, prepared – but I always knew that I have it inside. I become nervous as anyone, but when it is important, I always go up.
“I become more fit, I feel better as the pressure is built. It is difficult to practice, difficult to teach. It is good to know that he did not leave me in this mature old age.
“I don’t want age to become too much in history. I move well, the body feels good, trains well. There could be a good coming golf course.
“Today is huge for me. Very rewarding – a lot of hard work materializing at 45.”
The playoffs were launched in 2007 and received several adjustments to qualification and format since this year having three tournaments which all offer limited field sizes.
Only the first 70s in the ranking throughout the season qualified for the Fedex St. Jude championship, with the top 50 after which passes to the BMW championship at the Valley Golf Club Caves Maryland from August 14 to 17.
These two events offer 2,000 FEDEXCUP points to the winner – four times the amount granted for a regular event of PGA Tour, the two not having a reduction of 36 holes either.
The top 30 of the ranking after these tournaments qualify for the Tour championship, which takes place from August 21 to 24 at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, with the three events exclusively Live on Sky Sports.
