Exclusive interview with Graham Potter: West Ham Boss welcomes the pressure and says that it is confident to turn the shape | Football news

Graham Potter is a man under pressure while his side of the western ham in difficulty is preparing to face Everton Monday evening football.
The defeat of last weekend against Crystal Palace was their fifth in six games in all competitions this season and has caused intense speculation around the future of the former manager of Chelsea and Brighton.
In an exclusive interview with Sky SportsPotter explains how he and his players stand together, why he needs time to change the club’s culture and why he has no regrets to take the job.
Recovery of the loss of palaces
POTTER: “It’s always difficult when you have had a bad result, wherever you are, from top to bottom of the country. It’s work, it’s life.
“For players, because they are so attached to what we are trying to do and because of how much they want to change things, there is an element of disappointment that is enormous. So your work is to manage this, to support, recover them and move forward.
“Treat the weekend, treat the reverse, treat the result, then think about how you can improve and how to go ahead and try to win the next match.
“I have only respect for players, to be honest, because of the way they hurt and how disappointed they are, but at the same time they have stuck.
“They stayed glued to what we are trying to do, to stay professional, to stay focused, to take responsibility and not to do things that make you feel that things are not going well, which is to blame others or to push it elsewhere.
“Everyone has taken this responsibility and this property. They are determined to change our fortune and I have enormous respect for the players for this.”
Press the pressure
POTTER: “This is what you register at the highest level.
“It’s good to talk about when it is fine, but in the end, which gives us the opportunity to work at this level is the ability and the ability to manage adversity.
“I think that when you are in these positions, your responsibility is towards the team, towards the club, towards the staff here, to make sure that you treat in the right direction, that you take responsibility yourself, that you accept the situation and the way you have to improve.
“Whatever the criticism there, it is understandable because of the results we had. You just have to ask:” Okay, what is the prospect? What is the context? How can we improve things and then try to move forward? “”
“You have to be grateful for the challenge. You must be grateful because it pushes you on the limit. If I wanted to stay comfortable, then I would not be entering this world. It is the first League we are talking about.
“There are 20 coaches in the world who have the opportunity to work in this league, therefore, by definition, it is not easy, it is something that you should take for granted or think that it will be simple and a comfortable walk in the park.
“It will come with a lot of adversity, a lot of pain, a lot of suffering sometimes, but you have to look at it and be grateful for that, because it allows you to grow, it allows you to be better and when you browse it, it makes you stronger.
“I think that is what this club needs, it needs to go through a situation together, to strengthen confidence, to build this conviviality, to create this connection, then we can move forward.”
Is work more difficult than expected?
POTTER: “You never know with certainty until you arrived at the club.
“But, because there have been two managerial changes in relatively short time, some invest in the team, some of which have gone well, some of which have not done so, culture and how it has an impact on the environment, you know that it will not be simple.
“In any job, you need a little time to solve these problems and change things and move things in the right direction.
“The challenge that we all have is that you need to get short -term results to allow people to believe that you have what it takes or the ability to advance the work.
“It is ultimately everyone’s challenge in the Premier League. Because of the place where we are and the results we have had, there is always a meticulous examination and a doubt and a negativity and it is normal.
“We must remain strong and we must continue to move forward and continue working on how we can get out of the situation in which we are.”
The challenge of changing culture
POTTER: “You have to align everyone with what you are trying to do.
“Then, at the same time, you look at every opportunity to improve your game team and bring players who help you in this regard.
“It’s like any relationship. The more you know, the more you understand, the more information you have, the more confidence you develop. The more difficult times you go together and see how each other act, you go to the other side.
“It strengthens trust, it strengthens belief.
“I think you have to look at it in this way.
“Football is no different from most organizations. If you are going to change things considerably, you need time or if you need a significant investment.
“And even this is not guaranteed in football, because of the League competition. This is not always the answer.
“So it’s very complex, and that is why it is much easier to just look at the short -term results and make your references from this.”
Are the owners on the same wavelength?
POTTER: “I think everyone linked to the club is frustrated by the result we had against Crystal Palace.
“I felt that the balance of the team in attack and defense was not as good as it could have been and therefore we seemed a little vulnerable. This is something that we have to improve.
“I think we share these opinions. We also know that we must continue to work and improve the team and improve things. So we are all on the same wavelength in this regard.”
Team selections and support Ward-Prowse
POTTER: “You have to analyze things as well as possible. It is a balance between change and stability.
“If you think you are not too far, then,” okay, how can we continue to move and what can we do to improve ourselves? “”
“There are fine lines in football. We were applauded and it was positive at halftime against Tottenham. Then, the match takes us away fairly quickly with an error for a goal, then a red card, then the afternoon is uncomfortable.
“You cannot therefore continue to continue the result and change everything. Stability is also important, but with a fine line, because in our work, there is always a need to think about how to improve.”
A player in the spotlight is James Ward-Prowse, whose bad form has put his starting place under surveillance of supporters.
“It brings a lot of experience,” said Ward-Prowse Potter. “He has an understanding of the game. He is an experienced player with different attributes.
“He helps us to enter and go out and go out and also with the group in terms of leader and a well -respected person.
“I think he plays a fantastic role for us.”
Is youth the way to follow?
POTTER: “I think we had to adjust things in terms of team age, but we also signed Callum Wilson and Kyle Walker-Peters who are experienced players who know the League.
“I think the balance of recruitment was right. These are not always young players. You need a mixture of professionals that can help the environment and can help people improve.
“I think Callum and Kyle did that very well. But nevertheless, I think it was necessary to inject young people and freshness into the team.
“Even if he has not been here as long as Malik Diouf, I think Mateus Fernandes will also be a fantastic player for us too.”
Facing Everton … and Moyes
POTTER: “They have successfully succeeded. They have an effective team.
“I think it’s a team with quality too.
“They use Jack Grenish well. Beto is a threat in the middle. Iliman Ndiaye who comes out on the side allows Jake O’Brien to continue. Then, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall finds good spaces.
“So they have a good attack unit. And as you can imagine of David Moyes teams, they are organized and defensively solid.
“It will be a difficult game, but it is also an opportunity for us to show ourselves and to show that we can compete and win matches at this level.
“I spoke to David before the last time we played them, in the back of last season. We had a good conversation and he spoke positively about the club.
“This is a fantastic example of how careers are ups and downs and you continue to move forward. She is a manager for which I have enormous respect.”
His message to West Ham fans
POTTER: “No one wants us to be in the situation in which we are. We have a lot of talent in the team and we must continue to move forward. We have to stay together. I think we have to be strong in there.
“Of course, our responsibility is to improve our performance and obtain more positive results. Otherwise, it is difficult to understand from the point of view of a supporter.
“There is a fantastic team spirit here. There is a link with the team that is as strong as I felt it.
“But we all understand the world in which we are also. This is something on which we work all the time.”
