With a third installment on the way, the biggest holiday horror film has found a home on a new streamer

You know the rules: don’t get them wet, don’t expose them to light (especially the sun), and whatever you do, don’t feed them after midnight. But the most important rule is to head to Hulu on December 1 to stream the classic holiday horror film, Gremlins. That’s right, just in time for the happiest season of all, the genre’s greatest pranks are back to deliver collective mayhem that rivals anything audiences have seen before or since. crossed out by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbusthe original film mixes all the wonderful things about the Christmas season atmosphere but adds a healthy dose of silly horror to transport the audience from the opening sequence to the credits. Finding a special niche among other topical favorites like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation And Santa Claus, Gremlins is the seasonal movie for those who can’t let Halloween fade into the background.

If you thought the Grinch was a troublemaker, wait until you meet the Titular Hellraisers in the center of Gremlins. The opening scene introduces the audience to Randall Peltzer (Hoyt Axton), a struggling inventor who comes across a unique little creature in a Chinatown antique store. Although the store owner refuses to sell Randall this cute pie he calls Mogwai, his grandson sees no problem with it, but informs Randall of the very strict rules surrounding the creature: keep it out of the sun, water, and never let them eat after midnight. Happy with the unique Christmas present he gave his son, Randall returns home and gives the Mogwai – which he names Gizmo – to his teenage son, Billy (Zach Galligan). While Billy does his best to heed his father’s warnings, chaos eventually ensues and the entire city pays the price.

The “Gremlins” franchise continues to multiply

Just like the Mogwai in the movie, THE Gremlins the franchise continues to generate followings more than three decades since the original film entertained audiences around the world. Shortly after the 1984 film’s release, the studio greenlit a sequel, titled Gremlins 2 The new batcharrived in theaters in 1990. Today, almost 40 years later, a third film is in preparation with Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer and Columbus taking on director duties. In the years between the second and third feature film, a two-season animated prequel series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwaiexplored the origin story of everyone’s favorite adorable furball, Gizmo.
