Patti Lupone apologizes for comments on Kecia Lewis, Audra McDonald

Patti Lupone apologizes for the recent comments she made in a New York Profile on Audra McDonald and Kecia Lewis who buzzed the world of theater.

“As long as I worked in the theater, I said my mind and I never apologized. It changes today. I’m deeply sorry for the words I used during The New Yorker Interview, in particular on Kecia Lewis, who was degrading and disrespectful, “she wrote on Instagram on Saturday.” I regret my casual and emotional answers during this interview, which were inappropriate, and I am devastated that my behavior offended the others and ran against what we hold in this community. I hope I have the chance to speak personally to Audra and Kecia to offer my sincere apologies.

“I fully agree with everything that was written in the open letter shared yesterday. From the theater clubs of the college at the professional stages, the theater has always been to get up and welcome those who feel that they do not belong anywhere else, “continued Lupone. “I made a mistake, I assume the full responsibility and I agree to do this correctly. Our whole theatrical community deserves better. ”

The Hollywood Reporter contacted the representatives of Lewis and McDonald’s to comment.

Friday, Rifle reported that there was a letter that more than 500 Broadway artists had signed Lupone’s behavior. The letter, in part, read that his comments were a “persistent failure to hold people responsible for violent, disrespectful or harmful behavior – especially when they are powerful or well known.” The winners of Tony Wendell Pierce, James Monroe Iglehart and Maleah joi Moon signed it as well as Courtney Love.

Last fall, when Lupone played in The roommateShe filed a noise complaint regarding musical comedy next to it, Hell’s KitchenIn which Lewis was. Lewis then went to Instagram to say that Lupone was “intimidation”, “racily microggressive” and “rooted in the privilege”.

In the New York Interview, Lupone replied by saying, “Here is the problem. Does she call herself as a veteran? Let’s discover how many Broadway shows has made Kecia Lewis because she doesn’t know what she is talking about, “she said. “Don’t call yourself a veterinarian, slut.”

Lupone also said McDonald was “not a friend” and that they had a rift years ago. However, Thursday, McDonald appeared on CBS Mornings to promote Gypsy And her 11th appointment of Tony, and said that she was surprised by Lupone’s comments. “If there is a flaw between us, I don’t know what it is. This is something you should ask for Patti,” she said. “I haven’t seen her for about 11 years because I was busy with life and all that.”
