Errol Spence Jr delivers his honest verdict on the Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Jaron Ennis showdown at 154

Vergil Ortiz’s “dream” opponent was ringside Saturday night to watch him destroy Erickson Lubin in Fort Worth, Texas.
But he’s not Jaron Ennis.
However, Ennis and Ortiz then shared the ring and engaged in a back-and-forth fight that only intensified their rivalry.
Ortiz later admitted that if it were up to him, he would next fight former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. The 35-year-old has been out of action since his crushing loss to Terence Crawford in 2023. Whether or not the Texas southpaw will return to the ring remains to be seen, but told Fighthype he was impressed with Ortiz’s victory.
“Vergil did well. He did his thing, he was supposed to do it. I don’t know what was going on with Lubin but Vergil did his thing. He [Lubin] I felt the power and I covered myself a little.
Jaron Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz will be on many fans’ wish lists for 2026, but Ortiz’s comments and those of his manager Rick Mirigan indicate their thought process might be elsewhere.
Spence was asked how he envisioned an Ennis-Oritz matchup going.
“I don’t know. It could go one way or the other. They’re both exciting. For them to fight at this young age, it’ll be a great fight.”
