Few women will be surprised to learn that even when the wives gain almost the same thing as their husband or more, a new study by the Pew Research Center reveals that they devote even more time to housework and day care, while their husbands spend more time on paid work and leisure.
“Even if financial contributions have become more equal in weddings, the way couples divide their time between paid work and family life remains unbalanced,” noted Pew.
So who wins what?
Pew noted that in 29% of heterosexual marriages today, women and men earn about the same (around $ 60,000 each). “Maris in egalitarian weddings spend about 3.5 hours more per week in leisure activities than wives. Today, that women are most likely to be the main baskets or only can vary depending on age, family status, education and race.
For example, Pew has found that black women are “much more likely” than other women to win more than their husbands. For example, 26% of black women bring back more than their husbands, while only 17% of white women and 13% of Hispanic women do it.
But black women holding a university degree or more and few children at home are also among the most likely to win about the same as their husbands.
