Episode 2 of Robin Hood on MGM+ contains the creator’s ‘favorite cliffhanger’ – and it’s absolutely brutal

Warning: spoilers for Robin Hood episode 2 coming soon.
The first two episodes of Robin Hood dropped on MGM+ at the same time, and we’re already reeling from an incredibly brutal death.
Rob (Jack Patten) flees into Sherwood Forest after clashing with the Earl of Huntingdon (Steve Waddington) – who also happens to be responsible for the death of Rob’s father – and encounters the head of Nottingham’s sheriff’s guards (Sean Bean).
“They Ain’t Cheap Tricks” – Why Robin Hood Episode Cliffhangers Are So Good
Look on it
“They’re all designed to bring you back, but they’re designed in such a way that they’re an integral part of the narrative,” English tells me. “I mean, these aren’t just cheap writer’s tips.
“Every cliffhanger is about taking Rob’s character to the next level of what we know about Robin Hood. You know, that’s the problem. That’s how he becomes the outlaw, that’s how that name is acquired. As you go through the series, what he’s really doing is building the mythology. As we get to the latter part of the season, we get a fully formed version of Robin Hood and understand really how he got there.”
And that’s what English and his co-creator John Glenn did so well. By reimagining Robin Hood’s origin story, viewers get a fully realized young man with a lot of problems. He is comparable, almost one of us. Everything that happens to him is something imposed on him rather than sought after.
“This is episode 2 for me, my favorite,” English says, and with the surprising level of brutality, it’s easy to see why. Rob’s reputation and safety are once again called into question, with the stakes well and truly raised.
But what about Glenn? “Episode 6 is a real cliffhanger. I love the ending of this episode.”
After seeing it, I know it’s another solid choice (honestly, there isn’t really a bad one). But you’ll have to wait another four weeks for the full reveal.
