Emma Raducanu and Naomi Osaka increased the WTA ranking after the conclusion of the US Open. Aryna Sabalenka won his second consecutive title in New York with a unilateral victory over Amanda Anisimova on Saturday’s final. It remains at the top of the world ranking in simple with a huge gap at Iga Swiatek in second place.
Coco Gauff remains third despite his elimination in the quarterfinals, while Anisimova has climbed five places to sit fourth. Raducanu also received a higher ranking after being dropped in the third round by Elena Rybakina. The young Briton won impressive victories over Ena Shibahara and Janice Tjen before she was eliminated from the tournament.
Raducanu increased two places to 34th and hopes to make additional breakthroughs to guarantee a sowing for the Australian Open next year. It was classified as low as 61 at the beginning of 2024, but regularly went back in the last nine months.
Osaka, on the other hand, was among the greatest movers after getting into the semi-finals of Flushing Meadows. It is now 14th, after climbing 10 positions after having beat tastes of Daria Kasatkina, Gauff and Karolina Muchova.
Cristina Bucsa has climbed the greatest number of places in all players in the top 100. She finds herself in 62nd after reaching the round of 16 at the US Open, earning a huge increase of 33 positions.
Alexandra Eala, Ann Li, Barbora Krejcikova and Marketa Vondrousoa are only some of the others to have increased the ranking by more than 10 places.
Many players have also slipped the ranking. Emma Navarro fell in the 18th, losing seven positions, while Jessica Bouzas Mineiro dropped 10 places to 50th and Donna Vekic is now 68th having been previously 49th.
Raducanu, meanwhile, hopes to continue to collapse in the ranking by the end of this year. She is about to sow for the Australian Open, but will have to make more progress before it becomes a reality.
After crushing the United States Open, the 22-year-old has raised the eyebrows by suggesting that some best players take it more seriously than other opponents.
“When the very high game against me, they have a point to prove that they are at the top and they are there for a reason,” said Raducanu. “I think that every time I played one, they have somehow shown it.
“At the same time, while I improve myself, I do better, that I may be gaining a little more respect, yes, the top has definitely increased its game.
“But I’m going to take it as a compliment they decided to really locate me. At the same time, it shows that I have much more work to do.”
