As for what inspired the appearance of the glome, Jessup explained: “The conception of the glome was influenced by our study on larvae insects and incredible micro-biotic creatures like late. Find the right balance of disturbing and adorable was certainly a challenge, but I like that one of the most frightening characters is the biggest smile.”

What you might not do immediately is that GLODON is missing a key line that most of the characters have: Eyes. So how is GLODON still so expressive?

The supervisor of the Visual Effects Claudia Chung Sanii noted: “The facial animation of the Glord is very expressive, despite the fact that it has no eyes, a real challenge for the animators.”

Instead of the eyes, Glord has an expressive big mouth, and he also has these small shutters at the back of his head which add another layer of emotional expression. The Jude Brownbirl animation supervisor explained how they became a bit of a challenge to animate:
