DYNAMIC DUO Producers Reveal Warner Bros. canceled CATWOMAN animated film for HBO Max

Catwoman has had quite a prolific career in entertainment. She has been portrayed in live-action several times, dating back to the 1960s. She even received her own film: 2004’s Catwomanand has been the subject of numerous animated adaptations. It turns out, however, that the character’s media career was supposed to grow even further. DC Studios is currently developing Dynamic duoan animated film produced by Swaybox Studios and centered on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

Created in Swaybox’s signature style, blending puppetry, CGI, and live-action elements, this is one of DC Studios’ most compelling offerings, with a real opportunity to become the company’s own. “We received the green light to do a project for HBO Max, a feature film based on Catwoman as a child.”

However, three months into development, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has made the decision to slow down the amount of content WBD produces for streaming. This led to the cancellation of many different projects, including Swaybox’s Catwoman film. Mintz added on the move: “He canceled 42 projects, including ours.”

Fortunately, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. It turns out that Matt Reeves, director of The BatmanI saw the images of Catwoman movie. He liked it so much that he decided to highlight Swaybox’s work and show it to WBD CEO David Zaslav. Zaslav was reportedly very impressed, calling the work “incredible”, and told them it should be published as soon as possible, but with a caveat: the project had to be a “bigger story”.

It is interesting to know that Swaybox Catwoman The feature film was going to focus on the child antihero, as he appears be the same prequel approach the company now uses for Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, as a plot description shared by Variety said the film, “Describes how Grayson and Todd’s friendship in their youth is tested by their differing ideas about what their future should be.”

Despite her popularity and constant appearances in Batman media, it would have been interesting to see Catwoman take center stage in a project with the uniqueness and brilliance of Swaybox.

Oddly enough, there doesn’t appear to be any projects in the near future featuring Catwoman. Although for a long time it looked like Zoë Kravitz would return as Selina Kyle for The Batman Part IIA recent rumor pointed out the opposite. The brave and the bold should introduce us to a full-fledged Batman universe, so hopefully the film will have room for Selina Kyle.
