Dua Lipa on Gwen Stefani, Love After “Radical Optimism”, New Music

When Dua Lipa sat down with rolling stone At Mistr’s National PrEP Day celebration Thursday night, she was still in seventh heaven after performing with Gwen Stefani at her show in Los Angeles the night before. Lipa surprised fans by welcoming the No Doubt singer and diving into a duet of “Don’t Speak.”
“I’ve loved Gwen my whole life. I found her so inspiring. I loved her music. I love her tenacity,” Lipa said. rolling stone at Mistr’s event at the Abbey in West Hollywood. “I love her voice. I love everything she represented. For me, it was a big childhood dream come true.”
The artists first connected in 2020 following the release of Nostalgia for the futurewhen Lipa asked Stefani to join in on a remix of her song “Physical” for Nostalgia for the future of the clubbut the two men “hadn’t actually met” when they published the pandemic project.
“From growing up watching her, all of her music videos, on TV and on red carpets, to seeing her right next to me, singing a song that was the soundtrack to my life, it was really special,” Lipa says.
Lipa also shares her excitement for Stefani and No Doubt’s takeover of the Sphere in Las Vegas — even though she was worried about spoiling the announcement, which was leaked that evening. “I didn’t leak this news! I’m going to get in trouble with Gwen,” she jokes. “It’s very exciting. I hope I get the chance to come see it.”
“I’ve been to the Sphere several times. It’s such a spectacle. It’s absolutely surreal,” adds Lipa. “The space is so big that you have to be very smart about how you use it.”
During the interview, Lipa also reflected on her 2024 album Radical optimismcalling it his “favorite album I’ve made”. She says her message about overcoming difficulties with passion continues to resonate — especially now that she’s personally in a new chapter and a completely different space in her life.
“With this tour, all the love and joy and celebration that I feel like I put into the world has come back to me, and I’m very, very grateful for that,” Lipa said. “If I had not written Radical optimism and I manifested all these amazing things in my life… so I don’t know, maybe I wouldn’t have met Callum [Turner].”
Does being in love (and engaged!) inspire his music? “Love influences sounds,” she says. “The music I make is a lot of fun. I’m still in discovery mode but we’re having a good time.”
Lipa also confirmed that she was working with Mark Ronson again on new music, but declined to tease the era further. “I love working with Mark. I’m so inspired by him. We work really well together, so I’m really excited,” she says.
