Donald Glover suffered a stroke and health problems before his tour was canceled

Donald Glover details the serious health issues that forced him to cancel the remainder of his New World tour last year.
While performing at Tyler, Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw on Saturday, Glover, who performs under his nickname Childish Gambino, described learning he had had a stroke.
“I had a really bad head pain in Louisiana and I still did the show. I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor said, ‘You’ve had a stroke.’ And the first thing I thought was, “Oh, I’m still copying Jamie Foxx.” It’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everyone down,'” the musician said on stage, according to clips shared on social media.
The 42-year-old then explained other problems he had endured, including a broken foot and the discovery of a hole in his heart. “I broke my foot… They found a hole in my heart… so I had that surgery and then I had to have another surgery,” he added.
After sharing his secret health battles, Glover encouraged the audience to live life to the fullest.
“They say everyone has two lives and the second life begins when you realize you have one. You only have one life, guys. And I have to be honest, the life I lived with you was such a blessing… You should live your life the way you want. If we have to do it again, it can only get better.”
Last September, Glover initially postponed the remaining North American dates of his The New World tour to focus on his physical health. However, due to ongoing health issues, the following month the tour was canceled completely.
Glover’s Childish Gambino alter ego began more than a decade ago. Over the course of six albums, Glover won five Grammys. Last July, he revealed he would retire his Child Gambino nickname.
“It was really like, ‘Oh, it’s done,’” he said. THE New York Times. “It’s not satisfying. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build that way anymore.
“I’m not 25 anymore, I’m standing in front of a rock and I’m like, ‘This must be moving.’ You give what you can, but beauty is everywhere, in every moment. You don’t have to build it. You don’t need to look for it.
He explained that his decision to retire the nickname was partly influenced by becoming a parent.
“When I put my son on my shoulders, I feel a deep joy. It’s real. No one on their deathbed will look back and say, “Thank God I avoided grinding my teeth.” »
